Pastor Clayton Smith arrived at FRCP in 2011 as a “Mission Redevelopment” pastor, helping us to cast a new vision for our church and guiding us to serve our community with passion and joy. He officially became our Senior Pastor in 2015. He is a second career pastor who answered his call to ministry following a career as a firefighter in his hometown of New Brunswick, NJ., as well as many other life experiences that range from music and theater, to truck driving and medical assistant. Clayton engages our community in many ways, and currently serves as a Chaplain for Portage Public Safety. He and his wife Jean have 3 children and 5 grandchildren.
Jan Meyer, our Director of Music, was born in Kalamazoo and has lived nearly all of her life in the area. She graduated from WMU with a degree in elementary education, including a minor in music. Jan taught kindergarten in Kentwood, MI and then in Kalamazoo where she met her husband, Bill. They married in 1966 and moved to Portage in 1967 at which time Jan became involved in the music program at FRCP, starting as an accompanist for special music and the choir. She also provided accompaniment for local middle and high school programs and soloists. She has given private piano lessons for many years. Sunday morning services find Jan at the piano playing the prelude and offertory and providing accompaniment for congregational singing along with the praise band. She is grateful to God for the gift of music and for being able to use it to worship Him! Jan and Bill have 1 daughter and 3 grandsons.
